چکیده

This study is devoted to a theoretical and numerical modeling of transient vaporous cavitation in horizontal pipeline. The model approach is, essentially, based on that the column separation (CSM). basic system partial differential equations solve hyperbolic type adapts perfectly method characteristics. code, allows us, taking into account unsteady part friction term, determine at any point pipe, each instant, average piezometric head, discharge change volume vapor cavity. illustrates coupled effect presence air pockets resulting term friction, amplitude pressure wave. calculation results are good agreement with those reported literature.

Numerical Simulation of Cavitation in Mixed Flow Pump

The purpose of this study is to investigate the performance and three-dimensional behavior of the flow in a mixed flow pump and the way cavitation phenomenon is affected by different parameters such as fluid temperature, pump speed and flow rate. Computational fluid dynamic software FLUENT 6.3 was utilized to simulate the whole flow field of the pump. RNG k-ε model combined with standard wall f...

Cavitation in rubber: an elastic instability or a fracture phenomenon?

The viewpoint that cavitation in rubber— that is, the sudden growth of inherent defects in rubber into large enclosed cavities in response to external stimuli—is a purely elastic phenomenon has long been known to be fundamentally incomplete. Essentially, this is because the local stretches around the defects at which cavitation initiates far exceed the elastic limit of the rubber, which therefo...

Cavitation in rubber: an elastic instability or a fracture phenomenon?

It is by now well established that loading conditions with suffi ciently large triaxialities can induce the suddenappearance of internal cavities within elastomeric (and other soft) solids. The occurrence of such a phenome-non, commonly referred to as cavitation, can be attributed to the growth of pre-existing defects into fi nite sizes. In the fi rst part of this discussion, I w...

Dynamics of laser-induced cavitation bubbles near an elastic boundary

The interaction of a laser-induced cavitation bubble with an elastic boundary and its dependence on the distance between bubble and boundary are investigated experimentally. The elastic boundary consists of a transparent polyacrylamide (PAA) gel with 80% water concentration with elastic modulus E = 0.25 MPa. At this Evalue, the deformation and rebound of the boundary is very pronounced providin...

An Efficient Numerical Method for Cavitation in Nonlinear Elasticity

This paper is concerned with the numerical computation of cavitation in nonlinear elasticity. The Crouzeix-Raviart nonconforming finite element method is shown to prevent the degeneration of the mesh provoked by the conventional finite element approximation of this problem. Upon the addition of a suitable stabilizing term to the elastic energy, the method is used to solve cavitation problems in...
